Wat is 'Kijk!'?
'Kijk!' is een sociaal artistiek project dat mensen van binnen en buiten de psychiatrie wil samenbrengen.
Iedere zondag van 13:30 tot 15:00
kan iedereen die maar wil zich naar de cafetaria van het museum Dr. Guislain begeven om zich daar uit te leven, op papier, of al converserend, meeluisterend, kijkend,... Ook jij!
Stiften, potloden, krijtjes, etc. worden vergezeld met een kannetje koffie én een stukje vers gebakken taart (indien de keukenprinses van dienst in form is).
Het project staat open voor personen die zich aan de uitersten van de normaalverdeling bevinden, maar evengoed voor iedereen daartussenin. Grenzen vervagen én waar precies jij je bevindt, maakt helemaal niet uit.
Neem je tijd, vind je plaats, zeg en doe zo veel of weinig als je maar wil. Alles mag, alles kan, niets moet.
KIJK - 10 maart 2019
After days like this one I feel that I do something relevant and important. In Russia people who have even mild psychiatric conditions are kept in closed centres where they barely have contact with the outer world, it is rather difficult to visit them there, they barely go on a group trip, well, they even rarely can move within this centra, not farer than the building where they live. They live in isolation. And the ‘healthy’ people, even their relatives honestly think that '“these people don’t feel like other people if they do feel anything, it is better for their own sake to be put in a closed center”. Not so long ago it wasn’t that different in Belgium. Even today many people consider psychiatric patients dangerous and almost non-human.
With this project I don’t really change this situation, but I right now I am happy that I can give “these people” something else, a company, a conversation, some simple human warmth.
KIJK - 17 februari
The drawings made on 17th februari. It was a lovely day and it was highly enjoyable to draw outside.

Not only did we draw: we also sew some herbs in cute little pots in order to see them growing and draw them while they grow.
KIJK - 3 februari 2019
KIJK gaat nog altijd door op zondagen tussen 13u30 en 15u. Wat is KIJK? Het is een ruimte van "mag" in de tijden van "moet". Het is plaats waar de zorgen van de buitenwereld even uitgesteld zijn en je mag jezelf zijn.
En — als je er maar zin in heeft — kan je ook tekenen. De tekeningen komen dan op deze pagina terug.
OPROEP: studenten beeldende en andere kunsten zijn welkom om bij ons een stage of een externe project komen doen en met het platform van een sociaal artistiek project te experimenteren.

Een observatie van de dag: je bekijkt een tekening als een buitenstander, je weet het niet wat er juist mee bedoelt is en toch je wordt gevangen door de beweging van potlood op papier. Het komt misschien doordat de tekenaar een bepaalde score/logica hanteert in zijn/haar potloodbewegingen en al zie je het niet, al weet je het niet, wordt je toch gevangen.
KIJK — 10 december
An artistic project with a social dimension, a social project with artistic dimension... It's not something I can defend any day of the year. For me, an activity where I — personally — can experience something I don't experience every day, an activity where everyone can explore his/her own creativity, an activity which creates new connections and community is artistic enough.
Next to it, I have my emotions and feelings, and I don't have words enough to tell how much I gain from it.
KIJK — 3 december
Het was weer een leuke dag. Dank aan iedereen en heel veel liefs.
Wij hebben "Belgium's got talent", "America's got talent" en nog van alles in deze richting gekeken en het was, volgens mij, de moeite. Soms kon ik me niet afleiden van wat er te zien was op het scherm terwijl dat meestal verlies ik mijn aandacht heel makkelijk.
Hier zijn de tekeningen — en zelfs niet enkel tekeningen maar ook gedichten en een brief.
Volgende keer heb ik een banaanbrood beloofd en het is het plan om iets met Johnny Depp te bekijken.
KIJK — Drawings from 26 November 2017
I haven't written much on this blog and the number of things I should write grows exponentially. So I just start posting instead of waiting for when I have enough time to organise everything decently.
So "KIJK" ("LOOK") project still exists, more than that, it evolves. Now there's a team of four people who keep it running, it has changed location, now it takes place in "Het Badhuis", the cafeteria of Museum Dr. Guislain. It is really cozy there, the atmosphere is warm... and there are even people who keep coming back and bring new people. (Basically, two and something years ago when I started, that was my dream that it would be something like this. There was some disappointment on the way, I seriously wanted to stop at some point — now I can admit it — but the crisis is behind and, well, it seems that there is a community forming on.)
The next goal is to kind of justify all the effort and the existence of the project and its team and its participants by publishing a book with drawings and testimonials.

KIJK! - Drawings from 1 April
I organized this session, and I had then a very particular feeling... I didn't do it for two weeks but I didn't have to feel guilty for not organizing the event, it was there with Peter. I felt much calmer and rested and excited. And there were quite a few people who came and I had a feeling that it starts to become a community.

This was a big day for the project. The first time that it happened without me, with the help of Peter Stanssens to whom my warmest and biggest thanks. It is so great to work on such a project together with other people.
